Projectsubsidies: categorie 1
In this category, you can apply for a subsidy of between €1,500 and €2,500 for a small-scale project that you present to an audience in the municipality of Amsterdam. We expect a strong, substantive idea that shows what your audience will see or experience. Explain what you are going to do, how and where, with whom and for whom. Also make clear how you will motivate your audience to come and watch or participate, and convince us of the feasibility of your plan.
If you plan to start a project but would first like to delve into a topic, find out how to reach new audiences or try out a new format, for example, you can also submit an application for research and experimentation in this category.
If you engage in cultural activities as part of a group in your spare time and want to improve the organisation of your foundation or association, you can submit an application for organisational development for cultuurmakers.
Who is this subsidy intended for?
If you are a professional artist or active as a cultuurmaker in your spare time, you can submit an application provided you live or work in the municipality of Amsterdam or a number of surrounding municipalities. These are Zaanstad, Oostzaan, Landsmeer, Waterland, Haarlemmermeer, Amstelveen, Ouder-Amstel and Diemen.
If you apply as a foundation or association, your head office (including your statutory seat) must be in the municipality of Amsterdam. If you work as part of a collective, you can also apply for a subsidy through a general partnership, as long as it is registered with the Chamber of Commerce in the municipality of Amsterdam. Please note that the partner acting as lead applicant must be established in the municipality of Amsterdam or one of the municipalities mentioned above.
How and when can you apply?
You must submit your application at mijn.afk.nl
If you do not yet have an account, you should create one first. You only need to answer a few questions on the online form and send the following documents:
- A budget. For this you should use the standard document that you can download from the website. Apply for the project as a whole, including the presentation associated with it. The AFK will contribute no more than 75% of the budget.
- Proof of your business address and postcode in the municipality of Amsterdam or the aforementioned surrounding municipalities.
- Your track record. In other words, a summary of what you have worked on or contributed to. Also provide an impression of previous work, for example with a portfolio or concert recording.
- Examples of what you will be working on, such as demos, text extracts or sketches.
Each month, with the exception of July and December, we can process ten applications
The first three are reserved for applicants from the North, New-West and South East districts. The received applications are allotted a place in a processing sequence by means of a lottery system. If your application is not selected for consideration, you will be informed as soon as possible and you may resubmit your application in a subsequent round. For the period from January through June 2026, the lottery dates are: 11 February, 11 March, 8 April, 13 May, and 10 June.
If your application is considered, you will hear within eight weeks whether the subsidy has been granted
Important: do not start your project before the end of the consideration period.
If you receive a rejection, you cannot reapply for the same project. You can only resubmit your application if it was not selected for consideration.
Tip
Read the explanatory notes carefully before starting your application.
