Projectsubsidies: categorie 3
Update May 7, 2026: Unfortunately, the budget for the first half of 2026 for professional art in categories 3 and 4 has been exhausted. There is a temporary suspension on applications until the end of June. Starting July 1, you can submit an application again. Click here for more information.
In this category, you can apply for a subsidy of between €7,500 and €17,500 for an artistic project with a presentation in the municipality of Amsterdam. We expect a concrete plan in which you provide full details of the content of your project and explain how it relates to previous work, why you want to realise it in this way now and how you will persuade your audience to come to your project. Convince us of the feasibility of your plan.
If you want to develop further as a professional maker, you can apply for artistic development in this category. This is not a fixed amount, as was previously the case with the stipend, but a tailor-made amount that matches your development needs. In your plan, show how your need for artistic development stems from previous work, why that development is necessary now, how you will apply the results in future work and how that will be visible in Amsterdam.
You can also submit an application to develop visual art in a public space in this category. You can apply for a separate subsidy later to realise the project.
Who is this subsidy intended for?
If you are a professional artist or active as a culture maker in your spare time, you can submit an application provided you live or work in the municipality of Amsterdam or a number of surrounding municipalities. These are Zaanstad, Oostzaan, Landsmeer, Waterland, Haarlemmermeer, Amstelveen, Ouder-Amstel and Diemen.
A foundation or association with its head office (and its statutory seat) in the municipality of Amsterdam can also submit an application. This also applies to a legal entity acting as the principal for visual art in public space.
If you work as part of a collective, you can also apply for a subsidy through a general partnership, as long as it is registered with the Chamber of Commerce in the municipality of Amsterdam. Please note that the partner acting as lead applicant must be established in the municipality of Amsterdam or one of the municipalities mentioned above.
How and when can you apply?
You must submit your application at mijn.afk.nl
This is a new platform for most applicants. If you do not have an account yet, you should create one first. Complete the online form and submit the following documents:
- A project plan of no more than fifteen pages.
- A budget including a financing plan, with one page of explanatory notes. Apply for the project as a whole, including the presentation associated with it. The AFK will contribute no more than 75% of the budget.
- Proof of your business address and postcode in the municipality of Amsterdam or the aforementioned surrounding municipalities.
- A letter of intent from the location where you will present your project.
- Your track record over the past five years. In other words, a summary of what you have worked on or contributed to. Also provide an impression of previous work, for example with a portfolio or concert recording.
- Examples of what you will be working on, such as demos, text extracts or sketches.
You can submit your application at any time during the year
Until the funds are exhausted and we can no longer grant subsidies. Applications will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis as long as there is sufficient budget.
For categories 3 and 4, there are shared maximum budgets.
For the period from January through June 2026, the following applies:
Visual art in public space (BKOR): €263,500
Culture makers (excluding BKOR): €188,500
Professional arts (excluding BKOR): €2,196,500
If your subsidy application been submitted together with all the necessary documents, the AFK will take a decision on your application and the subsidy amount within thirteen weeks. Please note that you cannot start your project until the end of the consideration period.
